Specific Rules For This Area

All HR Lax youth divisions will follow the US Lacrosse Youth Council’s Rules for Youth Lacrosse. In addition, the boy’s youth division rules committee met during the off season and determined that the following additional rules would be adopted for the 2007 season.

New rules for 2007

Boy’s U-9 Division:

  • Teams will play 7v7 (2-attack, 2-midfield, 2-defense, 1-goalie)
  • Faceoffs will be at the start of the game and the start of the 2nd half.
  • After all other scores, the goalie will start with the ball at the back of the crease.
  • NO body checking allowed. Poke checks and slap checks are allowed.
  • NO long sticks allowed.

Boy’s U-11 Division:
Defense sticks are allowed – however the stick can not be longer than the player is tall (with helmet). Officials will check before the start of each game and all sticks taller than the player attempting to use them will be disallowed. At any time during a game an official may check the stick length and if it’s found to be to long, the stick will have to be removed from the field of play. Repeated infractions during a game may result in a personal foul.

Noisemakers (applies to Boy’s and Girl’s Divisions, all age groups):
The rules committee adopted the collegiate rule (ACC, SEC etc) that prohibits all noisemakers during the game. Parents are permitted to use any/all noisemakers before the game, at halftime and after the game only. Any parent sideline not following this rule will be warned via a game official notifying the head coach. If it continues, the offending team may be charged with an unsportsmanlike conduct foul.

Frequently Asked Rules Clarifications:

Parent sideline abuse of officials (applies to Boy’s and Girl’s Divisions, all age groups):

If a parent side person becomes verbally abusive to an official during a game, the official will inform the head coach who has the responsibility to keep his parent sideline under control. If the person does not stop his/her behavior, the official may issue an unsportsmanlike penalty against the offending team. If this does not stop the behavior, the official will stop the game until the offending person has been removed the field (not just the sideline).

Coach w/ unsportsmanlike behavior/ejection:

If a coach is ejected for an unsportsmanlike conduct during a game, they will be required to referee the game prior to their next scheduled game. If they do not, they will not be permitted to coach their team during a game until they do referee.

Large team leveling/splitting (applies to Boy’s and Girl’s Divisions, all age groups):

For Boy’s Youth and Girl’s Youth teams (U9/11/13/15) there are NO “A” and “B” level teams. If a team grows to the point of splitting, the league expects the coaches to balance playing talent between the two teams. US Lacrosse recommends this for player development within all youth leagues, and the HR Lax Chapter has made it policy. High school teams are not bound by this policy.

Playing time (youth divisions only):

Every player who attends his/her scheduled game will play at least 50% of the available playing time. If you have more than 20 players (boys division), obviously this will mean it’s less than half a game. The league requests that coaches make every attempt to keep the playing time even.
